With the mission of eliminating barriers to education, Duolingo has founded a scheme called The Access Program.

It gives out more than 1,000 fee waivers per year, aiming to cover the test costs for as many underprivileged students as possible.

Duolingo also partners with UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) to assist refugee students in pursuing their language certification.

Until now, the program has supported students from more than 200 countries all over the world.

To register for the exam fee program, follow these steps:

How To Get A Fee Waiver For The DET

Here are 6 approaches to obtaining a fee waiver from the Duolingo English Test (DET).

Educational Institution

Are you a student or currently working with educational institutions?

If yes, consider seeking benefits such as cost reductions from them.

It is advisable to contact the school’s service department, especially in terms of language, to find the same financial aid programs.

Check the school or university website as well.

Financial Need

Instead of seeking financial waivers from your school, you could ask a non-profit group, as Duolingo issues Access Program fee waivers only to institutions and non-profit groups.

You should prepare some documentation in advance.

They include proof of your identity and a paper showing that you are unable to cover the exam cost.

To explore further information, please read the guidelines and frequently asked questions (FAQs) on Duolingo’s website.

However, the chance of getting approved is quite low.

This is because Duolingo primarily grants fee elimination through partnerships with educational institutions.

Community Programs

Duolingo has collaborated with many non-profit and community organizations in different nations to offer free access to its proficiency exam.

UNHCR and ICR are two outstanding examples, granting refugee students more chances to pursue their higher learning of language.

Hence, you could explore the websites of these international organizations.

Otherwise, directly contact educational programs that offer language learning assistance in your local area.

Promotional Offers

Sometimes, Duolingo releases various voucher codes and other kinds of special offers during its marketing campaign.

Therefore, you should keep an eye on its promotional periods on the official website and social media.

Another way is to follow influencers in the educational field on platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.

They often receive exclusive promo codes to share with their audience.

You can engage with language-learning forums as well.

These sites may share many of the latest Duolingo promo codes and deals.

Scholarships or Grants

Duolingo provides scholarships or grants that can cover the exam fee and offer unlimited access to its premium content on the website.

These opportunities are primarily available to students from developing countries, as well as individuals following higher education.

In some cases, professionals in international business and education settings can also access these programs.

Contacting Duolingo Support

The direct approach is to contact the Duolingo service team.

Let’s say you struggle to apply for scholarships or have been disqualified from financial aid programs at your school.

Then, you can explain your situation and request a fee waiver.

Duolingo may consider offering fee reductions or cost exemptions, given that you have a legitimate reason.

If not, they can provide information on alternative programs that are still open.

The Bottom Line

If you are looking for Duolingo English test (DET) fee waivers to cover the exam cost, consider the 6 approaches mentioned above.

You should contact the study promotion department of your school to update the latest information.

Alternatively, reach out to the Duolingo support hotline for comprehensive details on its waiver program.

We hope your exam will be smooth sailing!
