Yes. You can take the Duolingo English Test online from home without visiting a test centre. You need a compatible computer, reliable internet connection, a smartphone for secondary camera monitoring, valid identification, and a private testing environment that meets Duolingo's rules.
The Duolingo English Test is shorter and more flexible than IELTS or TOEFL, but it is not necessarily easier. DET uses adaptive technology that adjusts question difficulty based on your performance. Your ideal exam depends on your language proficiency, testing preferences, and university requirements.

Yes. Duolingo offers a free practice test with no limit on how many times you can take it. It runs about 45 minutes, uses the same question types as the certified test, and gives you an estimated score range at the end.
A score of 120 sits at CEFR level B2. On Duolingo's official comparison table, 120 is equivalent to IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL iBT 87 to 92.
A score of 70 sits at CEFR level B1. On Duolingo's official comparison table, 70 is equivalent to IELTS 4.5 and TOEFL iBT 30 to 34.
The test takes about one hour: roughly 5 minutes of onboarding, 45 minutes of adaptive questions, and 10 minutes for the writing and speaking samples. Results normally arrive within 2 days, and a faster results option returns them in about 12 hours. Scores are valid for 2 years.
