PTE Answer Short Question Tips & Tricks

The PTE Answer Short Question belongs to the “Speaking and Writing” section of the PTE exam. This task requires you to listen to a question and answer them in a single (or few) words. 

The answering process includes 3 phases:

  • Questioning phase: You’ll see an image or listen to an audio with short questions.
  • Recording phase: The microphone will open after the audio finishes and start recording. You’ll need to speak right after you see the “Recording” status on the screen. You have about 10 seconds to complete your speech. During this time, you can change your response if you wish.
  • Submission phase: After 10 seconds, the status changes from “Recording” to “Complete,” and your record is submitted. 

How Many Answer Short Questions In PTE? 

There are 10 to 12 questions in total in this section. Each lasts 3 to 9 seconds.

As its name states, the part’s answers need to be short (one or two words). The questions’ topics are various and mostly refer to daily situations. 

Candidates should show good language skills, including vocabulary, grammar, listening, and understanding, to pass this section.
