The other key difference is that for the listening-based task of summarizing spoken text you don’t have a transcript to use to process the information, therefore listening accuracy and note-taking efficiency determine your Content score. Summarize Written Text involves reading a written passage and taking away the auditory element, but adding some complexity in terms of comprehending the reading. Spelling is a bigger risk on science topics, because you hear technical terms without seeing them.
Yes, and it’s something you should do. Using precise scientific vocabulary from the audio helps you achieve a high Vocabulary trait score in responses on science topics. Use only if you can spell the term correctly, however. Misspelling a technical term will cost you the Spelling mark and may not earn Vocabulary credit. If you don’t know the correct spelling, use a similar word or restate the word. If you’re not sure how to spell “photovoltaic,” you can use the term “solar energy technology” in place of it.
